Your Guide to Port Douglas

Getting there

Located just 1 hour north of Cairns, we flew into Cairns airport and hired a car for the drive. The drive is along the coast so it is very scenic and for most of the way you are driving right along the beach.

Where to stay

We stayed at Peppers Beach Club Port Douglas  which was fantastic. It is just a 5 minute walk to the beach and the main street. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a more luxurious place to stay. There are so many hotels and resorts, so you won't have any trouble finding somewhere to stay.

What to do

Four Mile Beach

Four Mile Beach is the main beach in Port Douglas. It is absolutely stunning. We went for walks along the beach almost every day. The water is also beautiful and wasn't too cold, which was a plus!

Port Douglas Sunday Markets

On Sunday morning, the end of Macrossan Street, near the river turns into a little market. From fresh fruit and veg to jewellery and other handmade treasures, it's definitely worth a look. It isn't big, which means an hour is plenty of time to have a look around at all the little trinkets, whilst supporting local small businesses. It does get super busy, so I would recommend to go early!

Shopping on Macrossan Street

Macrossan Street is the main street in Port Douglas for food and shopping. There are lots of cute stores to have a look in and buy some goodies. Perfect on a day when the weather isn't great.

Mossman Gorge

Just over a 20 minute drive from Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge is located in the Daintree National Park. It is definitely worth the short drive down as it is absolutely beautiful and a great morning trip. The Gorge is perfect for a dip on a hot day as it is very refreshing!

The Coastcare Walk

A 4.4km walk around Port Douglas, The Coastcare walk is a series of 15 interpretive photo signs. It displays some of the most amazing views and if you can manage it, is a fantastic way to see a lot of Port Douglas.

Day trip to Palm Cove

We did this on the way back to Cairns airport as it is on the way, although you can do it anytime. Palm Cove is a stunning little beach town located 40 minutes from Port Douglas. It is a lot smaller, however there are lots a cute cafes along the beach that are the perfect places to sit and enjoy lunch. The beach itself is also stunning. Definitely worth the visit.

I hope you liked my guide to Port Douglas and it gave you some ideas for your next trip there! Let me know in the comments if you have been to any of these places and what you thought of them! Xx
